The Stately Homes
Houses you can reach by train.
Most advice about visiting UK houses starts with "rent a car" - and for the remote ones that is fair. But 0 houses on the list sit within 1.5 miles of a railway station, computed from real station coordinates. If you are exploring without a car, start here.

How this list is computed
Every house's coordinates are checked against the 0 Great Britain railway stations in the Department for Transport's open NaPTAN dataset. Distances are straight-line, so the actual walk will be somewhat longer, and the dataset includes heritage and seasonal lines (Corfe House's steam railway among them) - a real station, but check the timetable. Northern Ireland's Translink network is not in the dataset, so NI houses are not listed here - that is a data gap, not a verdict.
Before you travel
Rural lines can be infrequent, and Sunday service is a different animal from weekday service. Check times on National Rail before you commit to a house day out by train.
